Region 1 ODP 1996 join big clubs at Invitational near Florence

Region 1 ODP 1996 return from their tour in Italy and participated at the Trofeo Anselmo Fagni. Among the participants were FZ Zenit (Russia), Milan SA (Australia), OGC Nice (France), FC Inter, SSC Napoli, Empoli FC, AS Livorno, AC Fiorentina, AC Siena, AC Prato and Pisa AC.

Some of the highlights of their stay prior to the tournament was the  friendly match against Chievo Verona U-16, attendance to Inter Milan-Genoa at San Siro Stadium , lunch with U.S. international Michael Bradley (currently on the Chievo Verona squad) and sightseeing in Venice.

During their pre-tournament stay in the Garda Lake region, the team got to meet with Michael Bradley who shared his experience of team traveling as a young player and his course from the ODP program to the Residency program in Florida. A friendly match was organized on day three with the Pro Academy club Chievo Verona which resulted in a 5-0 loss after three thirds of 30 minutes each.

Day four and five were highlight by some training and cultural excursions to Venice, where the boys had nearly a day to explore the beautiful island on their own and a guided visit of the main attractions of Florence.

Day six marked Region 1’s first match of the tournament against Italian team AS Livorno. After conceding two goals in the first-half, the boys came out and got 2 goals back for a tie. Their second opponent was Inter Milan, ranked as the best team in Italy in the U-16 category. Inter sealed the chance for Region 1 to advance into the winner’s bracket with a dominating 6-1 result.

Region I ODP player Arthur Bosua (Albertson Academy) was the best scorer of the Tournament and received the Golden Boot Award.
